[edit] Biography

Zipper Spy is a project by the American multimedia artist Maria Moran which incorporates a variety of sound and visual sources, including zippers.

Zipperspy's unique mixture of broken beats and rhythmic noise elements had put her in the spotlight for both the rave and harsh noise scenes between 1999 and 2002, performing with artists ranging from K.K.Null and MSBR to Christoph Debabylon.

Initially Maria was a sound artist who was first turned on to other people acknowledging her work when G.X. Jupiter Larson of The Haters and Survival Research Labs pushed her. She also received support from members of Whitehouse who among other things, released a track of her work on the compilation Extreme Music From Women (Susan Lawly).

During the highpoints of Zipperspy's work, Maria lived in Lowell, Massachusetts, New York City, New York and San Francisco, California. Her current location is not known. During her time in Lowell, she was married to noise artist Ron Lessard of Emil Beaulieau and Due Process and ran the art space The Voix which regularly hosted noise, powernoise, performance art, and experiemntal music shows including performances by Noisex, Hypnoskull, AEC, K.K.Null, Zero Times Infinity, Dead Voices On Air, Skin Crime, and Karlheinz.
